Great kitchen tool and fun to make.
This is a great kitchen tool. My husband is a wood worker and is always looking for new projects. He sales some of his work and this unique item really gets attention. It looks really nice and works very well. He made one for us to use at home and it holds just the right amount of coffee beans, easy to use, and I love that you can adjust the grind.

I expect good strong quality materials
This is ok if you want to sit it on a shelf for decoration. But I wanted it to use everyday and it does not have the quality for that. With each turn of the crank it felt like it would break. Plastic gears just are not strong enough

Nice but small
Smaller than expected from pictures. Otherwise, decent.

Good bur grinder. Makes great coffee.
I've been using mine for about a year. Mine works great. The bur grinder is ceramic and does a pretty good job of creating even-sized grounds. This makes for better coffee. It takes me about 30 cranks for a 12 oz. cup of weak coffee in a reusable K-cup and about 60 for a strong cup. If you make a whole pot, you'll be grinding for a while. For me this is about 120 cranks. But if you make a full pot regularly I'd adjust the grind a little more coarse which greatly reduces the number of cranks. It is actually a lot of fun. Kids and adults love the mechanical nature of it. Building the box took me a while but everyone says how nice it looks. I finished mine with Odie's Oil which has held up with daily use for over a year now. I'd probably spray conversion varnish on the next one though so the grounds slide out a little easier.

Gears slip
The gears slip when grinding coffee and it takes forever to grind beans.
